Pets of VUMC 2018 — Collection #6: Pets on the move

Take a walk. Go to the pool. Roll down the window and let the wind blow back your fur.

This is the sixth collection of photographs submitted by VUMC employees to the 2018 “VUMC Voice” Pet Photo Contest.

The first collection, called “Duos,” was published in April.

The second collection, called “Dogs and their people,” was published in May.

The third collection, vol. 1 of “Dogs! Cats! Beds! Sofas!” was published in June.

The fourth collection, vol. 2 of “Dogs! Cats! Beds! Sofas!” was published in July

The fifth collection, called “What could go wrong?” was published in August.

Almost 600 (!) photographs were submitted for the contest. (Remember — the top prize we offer in the contest is a photo of your pet shared in “VUMC Voice.”) And while we won’t be able to use all, or even most, of the pictures we received, we hope to showcase a good sample of the best of the beasts.

If you didn’t send in an entry this year, and your pet is peeved at you about it, please reassure him or her that there will be a “VUMC Voice” Pet Photo Contest next year, but explain that the deadline for entries for this year has passed, and no more pictures will be accepted. We hope your pet understands.

Amy Swanson, Vanderbilt Kennedy Center. Pepsi the Westie. “One of his favorite pastimes over the last decade has been chasing squirrels on Vanderbilt’s campus. Don’t worry, he’s never been able to catch one.”

Amber Greeno, Pediatric Trauma. Zeppelin is a boxer-Lab mix. He is obsessed with his frisbee and can play for hours. Most recently he was my training buddy for a half marathon and easily ran 10 miles at a time. “When relaxing on the couch or sleeping at night, he is a bit demanding and requires a blanket to cover him.”

Gabrielle Hobbs, Bill Wilkerson Center. Coco is a 9-year-old schnau-tzu (schnauzer-shih tzu mix). She loves to go on car rides and hang her head out of the window to feel the cool breeze. She will sneeze on command.”

Leigh Thompson, Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology. “Gigi is my talker. She’s a mouthy little gal who gets into everything.”

Lindsey Horner, HR. “Tanner is our sweet 10-year-old Lab mix who was rescued from the pound at a very early age. He loves car rides and his backyard perch, and has perfected the wide-eyed puppy look.”

Wendy Walsh, Cytogenetics. “Babykins is the best lizard hunter around.”

Jenna Unutmaz, VMG Patient Access Services. “Pupcake has a kink in his tail, which myth says, means he was blessed by Buddah.”

Tanya Steinback, Anesthesiology. “Meeko is super patient with his 3-year-old human (not shown).”

Josephine Darwin, Tennessee Poison Center. “Rat terrier Emma and Chihuahua mix Zelda. They both love the Greenway, but Emma only has three legs — so sometimes they take a ride. Both pets are rescues from Nashville Humane Association.”

Carson Padgett, Pharmacy. “Delta is a four year old Lab/Irish Wolfhound mix. She was dumped on the side of a highway as a puppy, but quickly adapted to a life with air conditioning and a cozy bed.”

Krystynna Fore, Center for Women’s Health. “Goldie lays brown egg and is so sweet! She loves my twin 3-year-old daughters and will squat down next to them to be petted.”

Dawn Sabin, Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute. “Reuben the Yorkshire terrier is a huge Commodore fan.”

April Hughes Stiles, Williamson Primary Care. “Cody is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He likes to herd people around as if they were sheep. When Cody sneezes, he always hits his nose on the floor because his little legs are so short.”

Terri Hartman, Privacy Office. “Oliver (AKA Ollie) loves the swimming pool. He happily jumps on his very own float and will spend as much time as any other swimmer in the pool on those dog days of summer.”

Heidi Blessing, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. “Mack (short for McKenzie) is a Yorkie. He is an awesome pup and buddy and has done everything with me from swimming, the beach, bars, boating, road trips, biking and more.”
