This is the first installment of photographs submitted by VUMC employees to the 2019 VUMC Voice Pet Photo Contest. Hundreds of pictures were submitted for the contest, and while we won’t be able to use all, or even most, of the pictures we received, we hope to showcase a good sample of the best of the beasts.

Remember, the top prize offered in the contest is a photo of your pet in VUMC Voice.

If you missed sending in an entry this year, and your pet is peeved about it, please reassure him or her that there will be a VUMC Voice Pet Photo Contest next year, but explain that the deadline for entries for this year has passed, and no more pictures will be accepted. We hope your pet understands.

Regina Jenkins, Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism. “Lady is a Tennessee Walking and Spotted Saddle Horse. She likes kisses.”

Jen Crook, Pediatric Infectious Disease. “Danton the dog howls in tune with the tornado sirens on the first Saturday of every month. Pickles the cat plays fetch better than most dogs.”

Erin Collar, Critical Illness, Brain Dysfunction, and Survivorship (CIBS) Center. “My rescue miniature poodle, Ellie (7), and my niece, Aurelia (1). Both cousins enjoy peanut butter flavored snacks, stuffed toys, and not looking at the camera for photos.”

Kimberly Williams, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. “Neal is a shepherd/husky mix I rescued almost two years ago from animal control. He was an owner surrender, had scabs from an embedded collar, and weighed only 50 lbs. when I got him. Now he’s my 85-lb. lap baby, adventure buddy, and all-time best friend.”

Candy Cote, Hematology Oncology. “Patches, Luna, Pancake and Berry at Pancake’s adoption party. She (and Berry) were adopted from All Paws Guinea Pig Rescue in Oklahoma City.”

Kim Maskill, Trauma. “Josh and our 1-year old chocolate lab, Bo. Bo loves to snuggle and play with sticks and tennis balls. He is super friendly, and the happiest dog. These two have the best carefree spirits!”

Wendy Slaughter, Student Health Center. “Chickaletta is one of four chicks that I am raising for eggs. She is an Ameraucana and should lay blue eggs once she is old enough to start laying. She likes to spend her days roosting, pecking at the ground, and cheeping.”

Elisabeth Barber, Vanderbilt Specialty Pharmacy. “With my boyfriend Joe. The red/white Pembroke Welsh corgi is Cooper. The tri-color Pembroke Welsh corgi is Foxy. She is 9 years old and her antennas pick up all noises!”

Dana Kim, Patient and Family Centered Care. “Carolyn holding Clancy, who is a shih tzu, but believes he is a human baby. He loves to cuddle and going to bed at 8 p.m. every night.”

Maria Eckhardt, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. “This is my American Quarter Horse, Makim Goodhearted, AKA Maks. This goofy boy thinks I need to help him hold his head up and he is constantly resting his chin on my shoulder.”

Teresa Barnes Evans, Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. Malcolm Evans and Hemi (short for Hemingway).

Kristen George-Durrett, Pediatric Cardiology. “My son Skyler and Craig our boxer, on the first day we got him. We adopted him from Middle Tennessee Boxer Rescue on St. Patrick’s Day weekend last year. I wanted to name him Lucky, but Skyler wanted to stick with what his name was when we adopted him, which was Craig. They are best buds; Craig even has the same birthday as Skyler (or at least that is what is on the adoption papers). Craig’s favorite treat is bananas and Skyler loves to share with him!”
