Pets of VUMC 2019 — Collection #8: Tidings of comfort and joy, dogs edition

God rest ye merry, canines

by December 4, 2019

Jennifer Glenn, Children’s Hospital Perioperative Services. “Watson is a yellow Lab and great white Pyranees mix. He was adopted from the Nashville Humane Association in July of 2018 after being picked up as a stray. He is the sweetest dog ever and loves cuddling, going on hikes with his mommy and daddy, and watching Clemson football.”

Canines resting by an open fire. Jack frost nipping at canine noses. And lots of dogs just settling in for long winter naps…

This is the eighth and final installment (for this year) of photographs submitted by VUMC employees to the 2019VUMC Voice Pet Photo Contest. Hundreds of pictures were submitted for the contest, and while we won’t be able to use all, or even most, of the pictures we received, we hope to showcase a good sample of the best of the beasts.

Remember, the top prize offered in the contest is a photo of your pet in VUMC Voice.

The first collection, “Pets and their people,” is here.

The second collection, “Summertime pets,” is here.

The third collection, “Duos and groups,” is here.

The fourth collection, “Smiling dogs, cat rebuttals, horse laughs,” is here

The fifth collection, “Here’s looking at you, part 1” is here.

The sixth collection, “Here’s looking at you, part 2” is here.

If you missed sending in an entry this year, and your pet is peeved about it, please reassure him or her that there will be a VUMC Voice Pet Photo Contest next year, but explain that the deadline for entries for this year has passed, and no more pictures will be accepted. We hope your pet understands.

Watch for the call for entries for the VUMC Voice Pets of the Medical Center 2020 — coming soon.

Kristen George-Durrett, Pediatric Cardiology. “Skyler (boy) and Craig (boxer) are best buds, and both barely fit in his bed. Craig even has the same birthday as Skyler (or at least that is what is on the adoption papers). Craig’s favorite treat is bananas and Skyler loves to share with him!”

Victoria Wahl, Health IT. “Lucy is a two-and-a-half-year-old rescue. She is widely believed to be a Lab-chow mix. Lucy’s favorite activities include de-fluffing toys and seeking out pesky squeakers. She loves to snuggle and is an avid blanket-stealer.”

Stacy Rogers, VANTAGE BioVU. “Claire Lulu Rogers
is a 3-year-old pug who loves napping and rests her head on the pillows. However, she is too short to jump up on the bed, so she grunts until we pick her up and place her on the bed.”

Annie Rinehart, TVC Core Lab. Donovan, Copper and Boomer.

Leigh Sims, LifeFlight Event Medicine. “Nellie is a 7-year-old miniature dachshund. She was rescued as a pup and has been the boss of our house ever since. She loves to burrow under the covers, ride in the truck, eat, follow her nose and chase anything that squeals or squeaks.”

Rusty Dooley, Pharmacy. “Leo is a mix of golden retriever, great Pyrenees and beagle. He loves to dig holes, bark at everything, and eat grass, dirt and sticks. He is a big ball of love.”

Kristi Mitchell, Children’s Hospital. “Tucker is a poodle. He is very protective of his family, and gets very vocal if his ‘dad’ makes the horrible mistake of petting another dog. Tucker will wait until all of his toys have been picked up by his humans and put in the toy basket before he takes them all back out and arranges them how he wants them. Needless to say, Tuck may be slightly spoiled.”

Brad Oxnam, Work/Life Connections-EAP. “Emmy Jo was a rescue from the Williamson County Animal Shelter. We could not resist those beautiful brown eyes. She loves belly rubs, snuggling up, treats, and begging for people food (which she never gets).”

Ashten Pearson, Stem Cell Transplant. “Piper is a cockapoo with a spunky spirit and has a knack for biting and chewing things.”

Kim Blittle, Hemophilia Clinic. Bailey.

Lee Ann Buck, Billing and Payer Enrollment. Rosie.

Tammy Masnica, Space and Transitions. “Bakon is a 14-year-old French bulldog. This pampered pup has no idea he is a dog. For breakfast he eats his kibble along with egg whites and blueberries. For dinner he gets his kibble along with pumpkin, rotisserie chicken, carrots and strawberries. If you try to play fetch — forget about it. He always sticks his tongue out because he knows how cute he is.”

Jeanna Marie Buttrey Hall, Revenue Cycle Mail Room. Griff.

Audrey Carvajal, Biostatistics. Kanga the Australian shepherd.

Debbie Fortner, Revenue Cycle Coding. Sweetie the Yorkiepoo.

Pam MacArthur, Population Health. Billy Bob.

Angie Freudenthal, Pharmacy. “Rey is a 1-year-old shih tzu.”

Bailey Gaudry, Radiology. “Betsy Jean is a sassy little Southern lady.”

Kelly Bisson, Center for Emergency Care Research and Innovation. “Charlie is a goldendoodle. He loves making pillow nests and we just don’t have the heart to kick him off the couch.”

Kim Vair, Executive Health and Wellness. “Cassidy is a blue heeler mix. We got her at the Williamson County animal shelter and her favorite time of day is meal time – she is always hungry.”

Lisa Terry, Nephrology and Hypertension. Snoopy the Yorkiepoo.

Louise Hanson, Zerfoss Student Health Center. “Paco was a stray adopted from the Humane Society. He loves to hunt and dig and sleep in the sun.”

Madison Agee, Health IT. “Ozzie is a white German shepherd. He sheds more than any dog we’ve ever had, is an 80-pound snuggle bug, adores his two human brothers, runs away from the Roomba, and recently discovered his bark, which means he sounds like a ferocious guard dog.”

Margaret Morris, Risk and Insurance Management. “Lila’s favorite things to do are: chew on her baby toys (teething has a whole new meaning with tiny bulldog teeth), playing with her Australian shepherd big sister Annie, following her Daddy everywhere, and peeing on every square inch of the rug in the family room. After the loss of our 14-year-old bulldog, Brittany, in February 2018, we really felt like our house had been missing something. Lila has healed us and brought our house back to a home with her rambunctious, never-ending energy and sweet loving nature.”

Nancy Williams, Enterprise Cybersecurity. “Cookie is a 17-year-old bichon frise/Chinese crested mix.”

Megan Trombley, Disease Management. “Scout is a kind-hearted rescue pup that I found during lunch one day at work and picked up as soon as I finished for the day. He sings along every time my daughter plays her violin.”

Bobbie Vance, Heart and Vascular Institute. “Dixie is a 3.5-lb., 7-year-old teacup Chihuahua who loves time with family and friends.”

After so much holiday comfort and coziness, a few canines in winter:

Angie Williams, Pediatrics. Charlie.

Teresa Marshall, VMG Coding. “Rex is a shih tzu-Maltese mix (Mal-Shi).”

Josh DeClercq, Biostatistics. “Bowie is a 5-year-old corgi and a really good boy. He is both majestic and regal, though occasionally he has been known to be a total goofball.”

And back inside by the fire:

Megan Poharski, HR Payroll. “Buddy the miniature dachshund’s ‘presidential portrait.'”
