This is the fourth installment of photographs submitted by VUMC employees to the 2023 VUMC Voice Pet Photo Contest. Hundreds of pictures were submitted for the contest, and while we won’t be able to use all, or even most, of the pictures we received, we hope to showcase a good sample of the best of the beasts.

Remember, the top prize offered in the contest is a photo of your pet in VUMC Voice.

If you missed sending in an entry this year, and your pet is peeved about it, please reassure him or her that there will be a future VUMC Voice Pet Photo Contest, but explain that the deadline for entries for this year has passed, and no more pictures will be accepted. We hope your pet understands.

Hector Arriaran, Pediatric Access Line. “Two wonderful cats. Sherry has black stripes and Goose is gray. Both were adopted from Nashville Humane Society. Sherry is about a year and a half and Goose is a little over a year now. They love sharing their cat tree and often snuggle up top. They have all the toys and often accompany my wife and me whenever we work remotely.

Jody Glenn, Health IT at VWCH. Ryder the dog and Hazel the cat. “Hazel was lost for three days (later determined to have apparently run off to meet a boyfriend) and this picture is the day we found her and brought her back home. Ryder was very happy!”

Myressa Thomas, Obstetrics and Gynecology. “This is Blu (left) and Nash (right). Both are black Labs. Nash is 7 and Blu is 3. They’re both alike in breed, but that’s it. Nash is playful but calm, and a total snuggle bug. Blu is independent and loves nothing more than to be on the go at all times.”

Kate Burger, Medicine Segment, VUH. “Murray (yellow Lab) and Gus Gus (black pug) are best friends. Despite his size, Gus is definitely the Alpha dog and spends his days telling Murray what to do.”

Claire Adkins, Enterprise Analytics. Oliver and Sydney.

Jenessa Miller, Health IT. “Ruxin and Bowie are both Australian Shepherds. Ruxin is a 10 year old blue merle who loves to cuddle and eat. Bowie is a 2 year old red merle who loves to play and be social.”

Lesa Daugherty, Clinical Application Support Team. “Ghost is an all-white, silly, 6 year old Siberian Husky with blue eyes who loves to howl and talk all day long. He never meets a stranger. Raven is a panda, very playful, nearly 5 year old Siberian Husky with blue eyes who loves squeaky toys and to chase Ghost.”

Jennifer Parker, Nursing Administration, VWCH. “Winnie, a 4 year old English bulldog. Winnie likes naps, snacks and belly rubs. Cleo is a 2 year old Staffordshire mix who loves to run around in the back yard chasing bunnies and nap on the couch.”

Lisa Southall, Internal Medicine, One Hundred Oaks. “Roscoe and Lolli. Both are English mastiffs; Roscoe weighs close to 200 lbs and Lolli is a petite 120 lbs., and they are truly gentle giants! We actually have four mastiffs now because Roscoe and Lolli had puppies and I couldn’t bear to part with them. That’s a lot of dog!”

Andrew K. Stoffregen, Health IT. “Pepper (gray) is a cockapoo who is the big brother and is very protective of his little brother from another mother. He was a rescue that was picked up in Dickson, Tennessee. Sir Isaac Newton (White) is a miniature poodle that was part of the “Oodles of Poodles” rescue that the Nashville Humane Society held in the fall of 2022. We are still discovering his character as he comes out of his shell.”

Ashley Volk, Surgical Outcomes Center for Kids (SOCKs). “The black/fluffy dog, Ella, is my border collie/lab mix who was rescued from a shelter in Denver, Colorado. She is 11 years old, and still loves going on walks as much as she did when I got her at 6 months old. The blonde/skinny pup is Pete, my retired racer/rescued greyhound. He came from a racetrack in West Virginia, and in his retirement years, he is enjoying the lazy life sleeping on the couch all day, with the occasional zoomies around the yard. They both love going to Nashville Sounds games and enjoying a nice pup friendly patio on a cool day.”

Julie Davy, Health IT. “My rescue pups and co-captains Kaylee and Bandit Davy aka ‘K & B.’ Kaylee (cream) hails from Irmo, South Carolina, and Bandit (cowboy corgi) is from Huntsville, Alabama. They are best friends who love the water. They have been on countless road trips to several states, catching waterfalls, kayaking rivers, lakes, and playing on the beaches with me. Here you can see them on a stand-up paddleboard on Percy Priest Lake. The pups are usually on the board and ready to launch before I am.”

Pat Purcell, VUH Laboratory. “Parker (left) is an 8-year-old goldendoodle. Lexi is 7 years old and loves all people and all animals — she just wants to be loved. Both have wonderful dispositions and are gentle as can be, everyone they come across cannot resist them.”

Carolina Medina, Rutherford County Outpatient Clinic, Murfreesboro. “Archie and Big Betty — rottweiler puppies, both 7 months old.”

Carly Anderson, Temperature Screener. “German shepherd S.J (right) and her little best friend Duke.”

Kaitlyn Potgeter, Radiology – Ultrasound. “Zeek is a 9 year old Yorkiepoo and Zed is a 5 year old cockapoo. Zeek likes to ‘air lick’ — he thinks that he can taste the air of our food while we are eating. Zed can walk on his hind legs like a little human.”
